Since the site went viral last year, Kindle Cover Disasters has continued to spotlight and celebrate the world’s most attention-grabbing book covers. We spoke to the anonymous creator of the Tumblr and asked them to name their Top 10 all-time favourites.
1. Tender Kiss of a Russian Werewolf
Kindle Cover Disasters: This one holds a special place in my heart, what with it being the first cover I posted to the blog. In the surprisingly crowded market of werewolf erotica, this one stands out still. What does it for me is the juxtaposition of the word “Tender” with the shit-fitting hairy lunatic waving his fists about the place. Also, I like that the designer included a silhouette of the Kremlin so we know we’re definitely in Russia.
2. I Know What You Did Last Supper
KCD: There are puns, then there are puns. This is the latter.
3. Arrival of the Overlords
KCD: The author wanted us to know that this was a science fiction story about alien invaders. So he made this the front cover.
4. Animal Future
KCD: This was the first book I featured that prompted the authors to get in touch and say thanks for the extra attention I’d brought them. That was a real turning point for the site. It warmed my cockles to know I could use the platform to champion indie authors rather than just taking the piss (KCD talks more about this editorial gear shift HERE).
KCD: This is a perfect example of a cover that’s both dumb as a bag of hammers and the best thing you’ve ever seen.
6. Rise of the Carrion Lord
KCD: This cover was so close to being a real drag, then some bright spark said, “I know, how about we give the soldier a big old dog head?” and history was made.
7. This Creeping Evil
KCD: I found this one in an old book store in Europe. I love how goofy the googly-eyed “evil” looks. Also, check out the author. He’s a sea lion?
8. The Very Hungry Cthulhupillar
KCD: It gives me nothing but joy to let people know this exists in the same world as they do.
9. Hall of the Mountain King
KCD: This one prompted a fan to email me with his own, personal homage. I sincerely wish it hadn’t…
10. Abraham Lincoln: Fuck Lord of the Moon
KCD: Holy Christ, yes!
